5 Tips for Styling a New Pair of Glasses

Have you recently received a new pair of glasses? Perhaps you’ve been a glasses wearer for most of your life, but you’ve now decided to get a new frame and style them properly. Or, maybe this is your first time ever wearing glasses, and you don’t know where to begin!

Glasses are an intrinsic part of many people’s styles. Worn right, and you could have an accessory that fully expresses who you are. So, to help you get to that stage, use these five glasses-styling tips.

1. Start with the Right Pair of Glasses

Before anything else, ensure you have the right pair of glasses for your prescription needs, face shape, and overall preferred style. That might be simple ladies reading glasses, stylish cat eye glasses, or a more extravagant pair of multi-coloured frames. This part is important, as you’ll have this pair of glasses for around two years. It’s okay to try multiple on and take your time! Once you have the right pair, you can start styling them.

2. Experiment with Hairstyles

Do you like experimenting with new hairstyles, or have you worn the same one for many years? Some glasses frames work better with certain hairstyles, so consider changing things up a little bit. For example, if you have a bold pair of rectangular glasses, a slick ponytail works well.

3. Coordinate Colours

Coordinating colours often means matching shoes to a bag or a jacket to trousers. What about your glasses? Whether you have black, red, dark purple, green, or multi-coloured glasses, style them well by matching them to your outfit! Doing so will make you look more put together.

4. Choose Minimal Eye Makeup

Your glasses already do a lot of the talking, and wearing a bold eye makeup look can be a bit overkill. So, instead of choosing eye-catching shades or wearing lots of mascara and eyeliner, choose more subtle cosmetics. Your aim here is to make your eyes look fresh and alert. A little bit of concealer to hide dark circles, a light shade of eyeshadow, and a few licks of non-clumpy mascara can go a long way!

5. Wear One to Two Pieces of Jewellery

Your glasses already act as an accessory. To avoid your jewellery looking too cluttered and overwhelming, only wear one or two pieces with your glasses. For example, a simple necklace and bracelet, or a delicate pair of earrings with a watch. The idea here is to show off your favourite pieces in a way that complements your glasses, allowing the glasses to still take centre stage.

Keep in mind that these tips are meant to be altered – while they work well for styling glasses, every single person is an individual! So, you might love the idea of wearing a single piece of jewellery and trying a new hairstyle to match your frames, but prefer to keep the heavy makeup, as that’s who you are as an individual. That’s great! The key here is to style your glasses in a way that feels right for you.
