For our documentary, one thing we wanted to do was use Drew’s animation and art skills (yay art school!) to make a really cool introduction for the film.  It fell to the back burner in the intense final weeks, at that point we just wanted to get the film done, but now that we’ve passed the first string of festival deadlines, we can make some changes before the next round of applications. How do you make an animation studio? First, we had to get an apartment.  As much as living in a beach bungalow is, well, unbelievably awesome, it’s completely…

I don’t want to jinx it, but with 12 hours left to go and at 104% of our goal, it looks like we’re going to fund our Kickstarter! Torre at Fearfuladventurer.com summed it up: “They continually bite off more than they can chew, and then somehow manage to chew it. I have no idea how they do what they do. Just watch them pack their suitcases in this Kickstarter video, and tell me you don’t feel like napping afterwards.” Which is exactly what I did. I woke up at 7:30 AM Beirut time, checked our totals, high-fived my husband, drank…

Our Kickstarter fundraiser for our documentary is now in it’s final week!  Just 7 days to go!  We’re fairly confident that we’ll make it (projects that make it to 50% funding have historically had a 97% success rate) but we’re doing everything we can in the meantime to help get us there! We been tweaking the reward levels and adding new stuff, so I’m doing a round-up of what we have right now.  We tried to pack if FULL of cool stuff for every level, so you’re always getting a ton of value. Here is how it works: whatever reward…

Drew here.  It’s week 10 of our 12 week push to finish this film (and raise the funds for it) to apply to the Sundance Film Festival. Christine and I were discussing how things were going this morning. I was unusually calm about how much more work was needed at this stage, saying way too self assuredly – “It’s cool though, ’cause you can submit to Sundance without having fully completed color correction and audio mixing.” “Is that true?” “Is that… What? YOU told me that!” “Oh… well… there’s another thing I haven’t told you yet. There’s a late submission…

Drew here! We sort of knew when we started this Kickstarter campaign that there was no way around obsessing about it, and this week we embraced the repetitive and wholly unhealthy indulgence of repeatedly checking the page to see if a new pledge had come through. So bad was this obsession, it interrupted episodes of Game of Thrones we have been catching up on. If you have watched and enjoyed Game of Thrones, you know how big a deal that is. Oh, we have a film we are making, you say? Oh, poop. this week crushed our productivity. We planned…

Drew again this week. We made a somewhat surprising story choice in the last two weeks I wanted to talk about – how my mug is going to end up in the movie. It wasn’t really the plan. I am kind of an attention whore, as anyone who has talked to me and watch me get more and more excited, talking over people and generally trying to monopolize the conversation (I’m getting better, but like a dog, if I go without some socialization once in a while, you can’t take me out in public without being embarrassed). Christine wanted nothing…

I did it.  I pressed that scary little green button on Kickstarter.  Holy f*cking lemon balls sh*t. What the hell where we thinking?  A two-year documentary project that went all the way around the world, just Drew and I (and the baby), shooting footage and interviewing people?  And now, we’re editing it, just, you know, fire up that Final Cut Pro — which I learned somehow, along the way, back from the early days in 2010 when we couldn’t figure out how to even pull our video off the camcorder tapes.  And today, we’re starting to raise the money for…

Six weeks until the Sundance deadline.  Drew, here, writing today’s post, because Christine puking up bananas in the bathroom.  More on that in a bit. Holy mother of God, time is going by too quickly, and both of us have become consumed with The Wireless Generation. If there is a light at the end of the tunnel, we are too busy making sure one foot is placed firmly in front of the other to look ahead that far. It has become equal parts excruciating and amazing. This week, Christine decided to pry the project from my cold, dead hands and…
