This Place Exists: The Amazing Wild Buffalo in the Yukon

Driving through Canada to Alaska was a shock for me. I had heard that it was amazing, that the natural beauty would knock you out, but you simply can’t do the 365 degree views justice in a little picture. My favorite part was the wildlife, which becomes more frequent and bold the further north you get. We ran into a herd of buffalo and I got some footage as we drove by. There were maybe 60 of these massive animals along a half mile stretch, plus the loners we’d run into randomly over the week we camped out. Sometimes I could reach out and touch them. I didn’t, because I like my fingers. My husband was a little more brave.

  2. Beautiful place. I regret flying up to Alaska instead of driving every time I see something like this. The destination was very nice, but the journey could have been so much better.

  4. Carolina,

There’s probably more cars than you’d think– lots of RVs. The roads were fine. There was just one stretch that was a bit bumpy for about 60 miles. (Not bad consider the distance and severe weather.)

  5. Wow. I’m glad such natural beauty still exists in the U.S. It’s easy to forget sometimes.

  6. How fantastic. I am trying to convince my husband that we need to drive from Atlanta up to Alaska with our two dogs (following in your footsteps, Christine.) Being in the middle of so much buffalo must have been magical.

  7. I’m hoping to do the Canada-Alaska drive soon. I almost did it last summer from Minnesota, but am moving to Seattle soon, so it should be a little more feasible. Your post inspired me to get movin’ on it!
