Are You Thinking of Traveling? Get Inspired.

I admit it. I am starting to get just a little bit excited about leaving. I’ve held my cool this long, through the whole process from when it was just this delicious secret my husband and I shared, to telling family and friends, to selling all of our stuff, to quitting my job, to now– two weeks before we fly to Madrid. I don’t know what to expect, but I am optimistic. Will it all be a glossy montage of great moments? Not likely. I would like my own soundtrack though, that would be cool.

So I’ve been trolling youtube and watching some great videos that round-the-world travelers have put together. If these don’t inspire you to travel, then email me and I will send the paramedics, stat.

Where in the World is Matt? If you haven’t seen this video before, it became a huge Internet sensation a while back. Love the sound track and the dorky dancing. He’s my kind of traveller.

Walk on the Wild Side. Julie Dimon travels around the world as a freelance travel writer. I like the part where she’s like, “Ok here I am on a camel. [laughs] Here I am.” That pretty much sums it up.

Around the World by Human Power. This couple circumnavigates the world by the power of their own bodies. Incredible story.  A little scary but they made it.

What things inspire you to travel?  Post your links or stories in the comments and share with everyone…  (mostly I want to read/see more stories!)

  1. Two other sources of inspiration for me:

Erik Trindad’s short video, “Would You?”

And Brook Silva-Braga’s excellent documentary, “A Map for Saturday”

  2. Craig: Great links! I love those two videos.

  3. I loved where in the hell was matt!

  4. Agree with the doc by Silva-Braga. Was watching it last night! Mike Pugh at http://www.vagabonding.com has a great site that details his trip throughout Asia and Africa back a few years ago. Very detailed and informative and it was my site of choice before finding even more sites to pump me up for my trip.

That could be the bottom of your apartment stairs too!
This was taken in Rovinj, Croatia. My boyfriend and I do not have a ton of money, and this is not a resort. I too left the US and my family, sold all my stuff, and moved here to travel and experience a completely different culture and way of life. Hopefully sometime soon I will have the mental space to sit down and write about it.

  6. Vail: Beautiful pic, I love it. It perfectly sums up the draw to travel.

I’ve been hearing so much about Croatia lately, seems like I will have to go check it out.

You should definitely share your experiences, if you get something online, be sure to let me know about it!

  7. Christine,
Great site (now subscribed!)- i wish i had seen it 3 years ago, when i set out on a one year journey, breaking free from the 9 to 5 – I would have stayed away forever with your tips ! (rather than returning to the UK with it’s $2.32 per litre petrol prices and rain !)

I am from Wales, in the UK, and thought my video may help inspire some of your followers. It’s adrenaline-themed and fast (and i’m no film-maker, for sure !) but hope it helps some of your followers to take that step into the best experience of their lives – no-one can ever regret travelling !

You’ve given me renewed adrenaline to get back on a plane ! Thanks !
