  1. How about exploring ways you can make or save money from any property you own to support your travelling.

You can rent out your property if you are away for an extended period. Or do a house swap to keep accomodation costs down. Or go and be a house-sitter or house-keeper for someone else – while not actually earning you can make your money go lots further by reducing accomodation costs. Or use a social networking site to find other travellers who can give you free accomodation (you have to be prepared to reciprocate of course).

  3. Some great resources listed there…
I don’t want to spam your comments here…but I recently posted an article on my site about getting a job in Antarctica.

While not truly making money while traveling, you get a paycheck, some awesome travel benefits and once your contract is up a free plane ticket to do with as you please, not to mention not paying for anything while you are at work so once you’re done you have a lot of bank and can spend time traveling…especially great if you want a free trip to New Zealand or Chile…

    Again, great article!

  4. Will: Not spam at all, would love to list your article. Just post the link and it’s done.

  5. Will: Added! Thanks!

Everyone else: send me your links, if you have them.

  6. English teaching, I did that part time in the Middle East, it was ok but if you decide to teach try to specialize in something – I taught Military English to Officers in the Qatari Army. No one else was doing anything like that so I was in pretty high demand so I could charge 50 bucks an hour.

I know a few people that work or have worked in Antarctica, it is by no means an easy place to live. Just google Raytheon Polar Services

But if you are clever and are willing to learn new skills you can make allot of money wile traveling – I have for the past 8 years

P.S. Cool Blog, good luck with your travels

  10. This is a great post, I favorited your blog and added your feed.

  11. Wow! Thank you! I always wanted to write in my site something like that. Can I take part of your post to my blog?

  12. It is good to read relevant information on your blog. Thanks.

  13. Not attemting to spam either, just wanted to inform other travelers, in relation to what Heather said back in 08′ about social networking sites. Im in the process of starting a social networking blogosphere for world travelers. The site is not up yet but being developed as we speak. Soon there will be a page where you can enter your email to get updates on progress, cheap travel deals, articles and so on. Christine, if you are interested in having reciprocal links to each others sites, let me know.

  14. This is a good resource, but you will not be earning anything through those volunteering websites; quite the opposite, in fact. Most volunteering programs organized from the west/through the Internet have a price, sometimes an outrageous one.

However, it’s almost always possible to get a volunteering gig, some times with food and lodging included, when you show up in person and contact people directly.

  15. Per usual, great information. I would like to add that several years ago, I taught in American International Schools in Paris, Portugal and Peru for a total of 8 years. If you are a teacher with 2 years of experience, good references and a yen to travel and teach, this is a tremendous opportunity. I am not referring to teaching English overseas. Hundreds of American International Schools with American-based curriculums are located in even the most remote areas worldwide. As for a website: http://www.transitionsabroad.com has useful information.

  16. my best resource for learning about work and volunteer opportunities abroad is
    http://www.transitionsabroad.com

I also use print-on-demand sites to market my travel photography and other art which is an admittedly small source of income for me, but does help.

  25. Dear Almost Fearless Team,

First of all let me congratulate you on your informative website.
While browsing through I noticed that you are linking to a variety of general expat related sites on your linkpage. I would like to ask you if you could consider including our site (http://www.internations.org/expats/home) on your link page as well?

InterNations is the biggest global networking site for expats of various nationalities and their family members. At the moment, we have got about 170,000 members in 230 cities worldwide, a substantial percentage of whom comes from English-speaking countries. On our platform, expatriates and their partners can connect with compatriots, ask for advice on everyday life in their host country, provide other members with useful tips, make new contacts and find information in our City Guides.

Subsequently I included the proper HTML-code for your support: InterNations- Global Expat Network

Thank you very much for your consideration.

    Sincerely,
    Philipp von Plato

  1. Should You Start a Travel Blog? | AlmostFearless.com - 13. Aug, 2009

[...] What to do instead: If you want to blog go for it, but be informed.  Nomadic Matt, who makes anywhere from $3000-5000/mo on his blogs (yes he has many) has written an ebook that basically gives away everything Matt has done to make his blogs profitable.  I’ve read the ebook and in my opinion it will likely cut your ramp up time in half, saving you a good six months– a great deal for $27 he is charging.  I would suggest reading the ebook before you even start, because it covers such basics as picking a domain name, a decision that can haunt or help you as your blog grows.  If you need cash now, try blogging for a big network or corporation, wherein you can learn more about what works on their dime.  Also, don’t forget, blogging isn’t the only way to work online.  There are lots of remote jobs (from IT analyst to customer service rep), often making much more per hour then you ever would in your first six months of blogging.  For more resources check out the job board at Almost Fearless: Work Wirelessly or this post on Making Money While Traveling: the Quick Guide.
